As you may be aware, Chicago’s city council approved a new short-term rental bill on June 22 and many of the new regulations are going into effect on December 17, 2016.
These regulations could potentially result in significant fines for you as a homeowner, and us as a listing platform. Among other things, the bill requires platforms to submit detailed data about rentals, include license numbers with each listing, and provide insurance. These are challenging, onerous regulations and, unfortunately, our business is not able to comply at this time.
Regretfully, we must remove all Chicago listings from our websites (TripAdvisorRentals, FlipKey, Holiday Lettings, HouseTrip, Niumba and Vacation Home Rentals). You can continue to access your account as you have in the past, and your outstanding bookings aren't impacted. If you’ve listed your property through a subscription with us, we have processed a prorated refund of your subscription as of December 17, 2016 and you should see this refund within 5-7 business days.
We’re working hard to get fairer regulations for Chicago homeowners and encourage you to speak to your local government about these regulations.
Thanks for your loyalty and understanding. If you have any questions, please contact us.
We hope to be working with you again soon.
